Progress Energy supports innovative ways to use and conserve energy sources that protect our environment.  Renewable energy resources, such as wind and solar energy, are playing an increasingly important role in meeting the nation’s energy needs.  Today, there are many renewable technologies that are commercially available to homeowners and businesses that can be safely interconnected to our electrical grid.   These resources are important to Progress Energy’s balanced approach to meeting our region’s growing electrical needs and helping to establish a cleaner energy future.

We partner with organizations throughout our service territory to support hydrogen, solar and other forms of renewable and alternative energy.

Carolinas Customers

  • Interested in Buying Renewable Energy?

  • Interested in Selling Renewable Energy?
    • Carolinas ( see information below)

Florida Customers

Progress Energy Carolinas customers who own their own electric power generation sources can interconnect to the Progress Energy system by following a step-by-step application process listed in the toolkits below.   In the Carolinas, two primary options are available for selling renewable energy:

Sell All
Customers may sell the total output of their renewable energy resources to Progress Energy Carolinas.   Carolinas customers under this arrangement may also be eligible to receive additional incentives from NC GreenPower (North Carolina customers) or Palmetto Clean Energy (South Carolina customers) for output sold to the grid.  For additional information, contact us.

Net Metering
Customers may offset their energy consumption with their own renewable resources, and reduce future consumption with any net power flowing back to Progress Energy Carolinas.

For more information, see Net Metering (NC 10kW or below; SC 100kW or below).

Interested in Interconnecting Larger Generation Sources?

Carolinas customers who intend to connect renewable resources to the Progress Energy grid that are above 10kW in NC, and 100kW in SC.
