Here are some of the low-cost, energy-saving inspections and services available for new construction and retrofit** from your Progress Energy efficiency experts

Building Envelope Improvements:

  • Cool Roof
Cool roof materials reflect or reject the sun's radiant energy before it penetrates the interior of the building.  If we recommended this measure during a Business Energy Check and your improvements meet our standards, you may qualify for an Cool Roof incentive to help offset the cost.

  • Ceiling Insulation Upgrade**
If the insulation in your building is less than R-12, you may be eligible for this service. Adding insulation will help you conserve energy, and incentives are available for upgrades.  To qualify for the insulation, your facility needs a recommendation during a Business Energy Check.

  • Green Roof

Green roofs incorporate plants as part of the roofing system. The plants and soil provide a reliable heat buffer and can save you up to 20% on annual energy costs. There is a long list of benefits that a green roof can provide including increased roof life property value.

  • Roof Insulation Upgrade
If the roof insulation on your building is less that R-12, you may qualify for incentives to help upgrade the roof insulation to R-19 or greater.  Increasing the insulation help maintain the desired interior building temperatures while saving up to 15% of heating and cooling costs.

  • Window Film or Solar Screen

Window film and solar screen when used on windows facing east, west or south increase energy efficiency by reducing the amount of interior heat gain from the sun.  They also help protect interior furnishing and equipment  by reducing the amount of harmful ultraviolet rays coming through windows.

HVAC Equipment:

  • HVAC Check Chiller / Unitary
Installing highly efficient air or water-cooled chillers or rooftop units saves energy and reduces your cooling costs while maintaining a comfortable environment.  If improvements are recommended during our free Business Energy Check you may qualify for a Progress Energy incentive.

  • Heat Pump
High-efficient heat pumps can save 40% on cooling and heating costs depending on the size and efficiency of the unit. A free Business Energy Check may also help you qualify for an incentive to help offset the installation cost.

  • Thermal Energy Storage (TES)

Thermal Energy Storage can reduce the size and cost of replacement chillers.   TES systems also reduce usage during the periods of more expensive on-peak electrical rates, greatly benefiting businesses on the Time-of-Use rate. Get a free Business Energy Check to learn more about how to qualify for an incentive on a TES installation.

HVAC System Related Improvements:

  • Demand Control Ventilation (DCV)

Demand Control Ventilation helps maintain an appropriate temperature based on the occupancy of the room.  DCV avoids over cooling or heating large rooms by measuring the CO2 present and adjusting the ventilation accordingly, which also saves energy and increases comfort.   DCV can be installed on existing HVAC systems and may qualify for an incentive.

  • Duct Check and Repair**
Leaks in your ductwork can be costly. If your facility qualifies and a duct check is recommended during a Business Energy Check, Progress Energy will share the cost of the test and repairs, too, if necessary.

  •  High Efficiency Energy Recovery Ventilation (ERV)
Energy recovery ventilation is the reclaiming of energy from heated or cooled exhaust air and transferring that energy to the fresh air coming into the building.  To qualify for an ERV incentive, your facility needs an ERV recommendation during a Business Energy Check and the installation must meet our standards.

  • Roof Top Unit Recommissioning**
Over time, inefficiencies crop up that could affect your building's heating and cooling systems performance. Perform recommissioning to Rooftop Air Conditioning Units (RTU) can help ensure your equipment is operating at optimal efficiency.  Get a free Business Energy Check to learn more about how to qualify for this incentive.

  • HVAC Steam Cleaning**
HVAC steam cleaning techniques can protect the environment and help ensure that your Packages Terminal Air Conditioning (PTAC) or Packaged Terminal Heat Pump (PTHP) is using less energy everyday.  Performing this steam cleaning process can improve the efficiency of the HVAC equipment.  To learn more about how to qualify for this incentive, contact Progress Energy for a free Business Energy Check.

Indoor Lighting Improvements:

  • Indoor Lighting Upgrades
Upgrading interior lighting can save up to 50% of lighting cost, while improving light quality and reducing maintenance costs.  If an upgrade to your business lighting is recommended during our Business Energy Check, your business may qualify for incentive to help pay for the indoor lighting improvements.

Other Energy Improvements:

  • Efficient Compressed Air System
Compressed air system can be expensive to run but a system that exceeds minimum standards can result in a 20% to 50% energy savings, while improving production efficiencies. Get a Business Energy Check and learn how your business can qualify for an incentive to help pay to update your compressed air system.

  • Efficient Motors
Efficient motors result in long-term energy savings since over the life of a motor 95% of the total cost is for energy to operate the motor.  Replacing or installing highly energy-efficient motors is one way to help control your business costs.  You could also qualify for incentives that help offset the cost to buy higher energy-efficient motors.  Get a Business Energy Check and learn how your business can qualify for this incentive.
